Me pergunto onde foi parar meu brinquedo predileto? O pequeno cachorro é a cópia fiel do me antigo cachorro, seria uma coincidencia?
…..
Every year, some things repeat themselves and some questions remain.
I organize all the cabinets, separate a lot of things to donate, I wonder why I keep so much useless thing? It’s great to be able to move on many times and have to do the “cleaning” every year.
Every year I think of something to cook for Christmas, but I just accept invitations and I’ll go to someone’s house, will we ever have Christmas dinner at our house?
Every year I remember the celebrations of Chanukah (Jewish feast, I was raised in the Jewish religion), the feast of lights where we light a candle every night, symbolizing the light that overcomes the darkness, the light that illuminates the path during hard times and I remember a photo taken in 1931, a menorah (a candlestick used in the celebrations) with candles burning in front of a window. Through the window you can see a Nazi flag.
Wonder where my favorite toy went? A mushroom thatwhen opened, it was a small house, of which I keep only the little dog, now this little dog belongs to my daughter. The little dog is the faithful copy of my real old dog, would it be a coincidence? Would some child have as much fun as I do with that toy? Does the avocado tree from my grandmother’s old house still gives avocados, and does any child still hang ropes on their branches to swing? I do not like to think that perhaps there is no house or avocado anymore, but rather a building in that place where I was so happy.
Why even atheist I feel at home when I am in monasteries or ancient churches? What is the meaning of my recurring dream with a village of houses made all of stones, with the weather always cloudy, cold and rainy where a violet-eyed woman teaches me to use herbs to heal diseases? Why do I always dream about people who will pass away, why do they come to say goodbye to me in my dreams?
Why I always have the strange feeling of never having found my home, every change is full of joy, but as soon as I get settled the winds tell me in my ears: “do not accomodate, this is not where you put down roots.” Will I ever put down roots in some place?
What made me afraid of heights? Will I ever learn to do the recipe for some meatballs my grandmother and mother did? Will someone ever invent a night-blooming jasmine perfume that fits inside a bottle? When I was little I believed that i could talk with the sea, did he still listen to me?
